Federal Surplus Program

This program was established with the enactment of the Surplus Property Act of 1944 on Oct. 3, 1944. It aimed to aid in the transition from war to peace by distributing government surplus property to states and other organizations. GSA oversees this program.

Property through this program is normally at no cost, however, there are service charges based on a sliding scale using original acquisition costs and fair market value.
